Purpose

At Steller Institute of Training and Education, we are dedicated to ensuring the health and wellbeing of our students, staff, and stakeholders through proactive infection prevention and control strategies. This policy outlines our commitment to maintaining a safe, hygienic, and supportive learning environment, particularly during a pandemic such as COVID-19. It provides clear guidance on how we reduce transmission risk while continuing to deliver high-quality education.

Scope

This policy applies to all students, trainers, assessors, employees, contractors, and visitors engaged with Steller Institute. We ensure:

  1. Compliance with national and state infection control guidelines and health directives.

  2. Regular updates and training on health protocols for all internal and external stakeholders.

  3. Risk assessment and implementation of control measures to reduce infection hazards.

  4. Prompt contact tracing in the event of a confirmed case within our facilities.

  5. Clear communication of policy expectations and any required behavioural adjustments.

Guiding Principles

  • Infection prevention measures will be clearly visible and consistently reinforced throughout all training locations.

  • All confirmed COVID-19 cases will be managed according to government guidelines.

  • Staff and students arriving from overseas must comply with current Australian border health requirements.

  • Face masks may be mandated in line with public health advice.

On-Campus Prevention Measures

To minimise the risk of infection, all individuals must:

  • Self-isolate and get tested immediately if experiencing any symptoms, even mild ones.

  • Maintain 1.5 metres physical distance where practical.

  • Practise routine hand hygiene using soap and water or hand sanitiser.

  • Avoid physical greetings—opt for a wave or verbal hello.

  • Follow respiratory hygiene by covering sneezes and coughs with tissue or elbow.

  • Stay home if unwell or instructed to isolate.

Everyday Hygiene Recommendations

  • Wash hands thoroughly and frequently for at least 20 seconds.

  • Use hand sanitiser when soap and water are not available.

  • Avoid touching face, especially eyes, nose, and mouth.

  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue (dispose of it immediately).

  • Stay at home if sick to protect others.

Physical Distancing Protocol

  • Maintain 1.5m spacing in classrooms and shared spaces; seating will be arranged accordingly.

  • Avoid physical contact such as hugs or handshakes.

  • Use online or phone communication for meetings when possible.

  • Use contactless payment options to minimise physical contact.

COVID-19 Symptoms to Watch For

Monitor for symptoms including:

  • Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell

  • Other possible signs: fatigue, muscle pain, diarrhoea, or headaches

If symptoms appear, individuals must get tested, isolate, and avoid visiting high-risk areas such as healthcare or aged care facilities.

Face Masks and PPE

Face masks may be required indoors based on prevailing NSW Health advice. Updates will be provided to staff and students in real-time through internal communication platforms.

International and Interstate Travel

Those arriving from overseas or certain interstate areas must adhere to NSW public health requirements, including potential quarantine or testing. Students and staff are responsible for keeping informed of these regulations via official channels.

Monitoring and Compliance

Health and safety are a shared responsibility. Steller Institute will monitor adherence to this policy and reserves the right to take corrective action if guidelines are not followed. All updates to the policy will be communicated via student handbooks, email notifications, and campus signage.
